Show Notes

Is it possible to not only survive as a hearing practice during a pandemic, but actually thrive? Dr Nancy Duncan of Duncan Hearing proved that by controlling her controllables and being proactive, she was able to do just that.

Dr. Nancy opened her practice in 2003 and now has 3 locations across Massachusetts. She always knew she wanted to eventually move into private practice and took a risk to open her first location, which was profitable in the first year and every year since. Getting it off the ground was long hours, a big family effort and working around children, so she knows what it takes to persevere through challenges.

Now having grown her practice, taken on staff and created the practice she envisioned from the beginning, she shares with Oli how she has tackled the challenges of the pandemic. Learn how building a strong team, building a powerful and proven value proposition and being proactive has served her well in the past 12 months.

Highlights:

“My biggest growth moment was realising that I didn’t know it all and that I couldn’t do it all myself and that I needed to align myself with people who were smarter than myself.”

“It’s all about training but first knowing what it is that you do that makes that patient experience special and then how do you translate that into teaching someone how to do it.”

“It was just sort of plugging holes as they came up of what was needed.”

“We didn’t know what was going to happen when we came back. We didn’t know if people were going to feel comfortable coming in. We didn’t know what the world was going to look like.”

“Patients really love the interaction and the ability to become a part of our story. And they enjoy being asked to contribute and asked their opinions.”

“Your reputation is everything. Hang on to that, stay true to it, make sure your message always relays that and you’ll be fine.”
